4 Hollywood Romantic-Comedies Releasing This May On OTT

Romantic comedies will always be popular! Even though rom-coms are predicted to die out every other year, fandom and streaming platforms have given rise to a whole new genre of love stories, many of which are adapted from online original works. Romance moviegoers essentially said that they would make the films themselves if Hollywood refused to produce them for them.

Here is a list of 5 Hollywood Romcoms releasing this May on various OTT platforms.

1. Mother of the Bride

Mother of the Bride, a  romantic comedy on Netflix that is helmed by veteran rom-com director Mark Waters and is scheduled to launch globally on May 9, 2024, promises a healthy amount of mayhem and charm surrounding weddings. 

The film, which stars Benjamin Bratt, Miranda Cosgrove, and the legendary Brooke Shields, is a bouquet of love, humor, and family dynamics as it follows the crazy run-up to the big "I Do." Mother of the Bride promises to be a marital extravaganza you won't want to miss. Set aside some time on your calendar for a mix of hilarious antics and touching moments.

2. The Idea of You

For lovers of a heartfelt romantic comedy, The Idea of You, which debuts on  Amazon Prime on May 2, 2024, is a must-see. 

The flick, which is directed by Michael Showalter and features Anne Hathaway, promises both warmth and depth against the backdrop of the music industry. It delivers a swirl of passion when 40-something divorced mother Solène (Hathaway) has an unexpected affair with a young pop star. Mixing mayhem, music, and a hint of May-December romance intrigue, The  Idea of You (Amazon) is sure to appeal to viewers who like their rom-coms to have a little bit more substance and sparkle.

3. Thank You, Next

Releasing this May on Netflix, Thank You, Next is a Turkish romantic drama series. The series shows Leyla Taylan, a prominent lawyer, representing Tuba Tepelioglu, the well-known third wife, in a case dubbed the "divorce case of the year" after enduring the heartbreak of her first love, which ended in treachery.

The series is starring Serenay Sarıkaya, Metin Akdülger, and Hakan Kurtaş.

4. How to Ruin Love: The Proposal (Season 1)

The romantic comedy will follow a turbulent couple through all of their highs and lows. Additionally, "How to Ruin Love: The Proposal" will be released on May 31 on Netflix, although the "How to Ruin" products are often issued over the holiday season.

The protagonist of the tale is Sivenathi Mabuya's character Zoleka, who thinks her long-term partner Kagiso (Bohang Moeko) is unfaithful to her. It is a South African romantic drama series.
